The Netherlands will build 2,400 secure parking spaces in Limburg

Editorial board.- The Dutch government will build 2,400 secure truck parking spaces in the province of Limburg. Of the money allocated for infrastructure, 63 million euros will be used in the construction of three parking spaces in the north, center and south of the province.

These new car parks will be close to motorways and adjacent to existing service areas. For him representative Maarten van Gaans-Gijbels (mobility and infrastructure): “There are still few of these secure car parks in the Netherlands. The result is that the trucks are parked in places where social insecurity or even road insecurity is generated, and so on theft of goods. I am pleased that in our province we guarantee the truck driver safety and other road users on the important freight corridor Rotterdam-Limburg-Germany”.

According to the government of the province of Limburg, with the construction of these safe areas, the trucks will remain on the main road network (motorways), therefore they will not use the local roads of cities or towns, improving road safety. An added benefit is that you can use your existing infrastructure. Rest areas, often around a gas station, already have an entry and exit lane on the motorway. Therefore, no further investment is required. Safe parking also contributes to good working conditions and hygiene for drivers.

These areas will be commercially managed, so parking fees may apply. The parking lots must be paved, fenced, with lighting, surveillance cameras, access door, have a restaurant and toilets for motorists. In the future it is expected that they will be equipped with electric charging facilities. Thus, while the driver takes his statutory break, the batteries of the electric truck can be recharged.
