The Netherlands announce their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest | show

showMia Nicolai and Dion Cooper together represent the Netherlands during the 67th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. The duo was reunited by Eurovision winner Duncan Laurence and songwriter Jordan Garfield. The four wrote a song that “made a big impression on the entire selection committee,” after which they were unanimously nominated as the Dutch voice for the Liverpool music festival in 2023.

“We have received a lot of songs this year, mostly from young talents, which is a nice step forward. This also applies to Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper, two idiosyncratic young talents who also write songs and have a story to tell. The selection committee was unanimously very pleased with their song in which their voices come together beautifully, ”says Eric van Stade, director of AvroTros. “Despite the fact that we won’t say much about the song yet, we can say that it is a distinctive, straightforward and meaningful song that is sure to stand out in the field of Eurovision attendees in a positive way.”

Mia and Dion were unknown until two years ago, until they are mated by Duncan and Jordan. There is an instant musical click; their voices fit together perfectly, just like the message they want to convey, they say in a statement. “The Songfestival is the stage where people can see what you have to bring as an artist. It’s great and still a little bit unreal, but we’re ready to bring something positive to Europe, “said the duo.

The song with which Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper go to the Eurovision Song Contest remains a secret for the moment. When the presentation is exactly, AVROTROS can’t tell yet. A spokesperson confirms that this will be in the new year. The song will probably come back shortly before the deadline. The European Broadcasting Union sets an annual date, usually mid-March, on which all proposals must be known. The first has always been in early March for the past seven years.

This year the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Liverpool. As the Eurovision Song Contest cannot be held in the winning country of Ukraine, the UK was chosen in consultation with Ukraine and the EBU. The semifinals will be played on Tuesday 9 May and Thursday 11 May, while the final on Saturday 13 May.
