The NBA that is coming: it would triple the income and contracts of the stars

That the NBA was one of the first sports leagues to understand the business of marketing and show business as a source of income, there is no doubt. But what is really striking is that, since the nineties, when this phenomenon occurred, the league did not stop. On the contrary, it continued to bill more and more.

To the show offered each night, added to the television contracts, globalization was added that made the NBA one of the most watched leagues in the world. The arrival of players from all over the world made the whole planet aware of the performances that were previously reserved almost exclusively for Americans.

And precisely the televising will be the main income for the league, when in 2025 the new contract that is currently being negotiated with ESPN and Turner Sports comes into force, the two main television networks that broadcast each game.

The current contract, signed in 2014 by the then brand new commissioner Adam Silver, was for $ 25 billion and went into effect for the 2015-2016 season. That contract will end after ten years and the NBA is already modifying that figure.

According to local press reports, the new agreement will be for 75,000 million dollars, three times more than the current contract. In this way, around 8,300 million per season will be injected to be distributed among the 30 current franchises.

In this way, financial experts estimate that by 2025, the salary cap of each of the teams will rise above 170 million dollars, much more than the current 112 million. That opens a door for players, who will try to sign contracts that do not extend beyond that year, and thus sign a new one at the beginning of that new limit.

Thus, sports analysts are convinced that the contracts that will be seen from 2025 will have a value of more than 300 million dollars for the main figures that are at their peak level and renew for the maximum possible. Remember that the first player to sign a contract of more than 200 million was Stephen Curry in 2017, just four years ago.
