The Music Cube, a door to classical music for the Campo de Gibraltar

The Institute of Campo-Gibraltarian Studies (IECG), in its work to disseminate the history and heritage of this region, it also stops to study and disseminate, through its Section IV, artistic disciplines such as music, theater and dance. In this way, the magazine Almoraima number 51 (2019) dedicate an article to The Music Cube, a door to classical music for the Campo de Gibraltar. The musicologist Carlos Miguel Gómez de Avellaneda is in charge of approaching this musical entity, conducting an interview with the conductor Juan Carlos Ocaña Muñoz to record his cultural and musical work and how this project began.

The Music Cube is the headquarters of the Algeciras Symphony Orchestra and of the Friends of Music association. In this building a series of musical activities are carried out coordinated by Juan Carlos Ocaña from Algeria. Among these stand out exhibitions, rehearsals, concerts, seminars and work on the recovery of Andalusian musical heritage. “From Section IV of the IECG we have not wanted to miss the possibility that readers of Almoraima meet Juan Carlos Ocaña Muñoz, responsible for the intense musical activity that is taking place on the buried waters of the Rio de la Miel. This man from Algeciras was musically trained at the professional conservatories of Algeciras and La Línea, before studying conducting at the superior music conservatory of Malaga ”.

“Every day the city opens up before us as a future of modern buildings, new businesses and new people that make up a new city on the foundations that the past gave us. After this interview I can’t prevent the 21st century from looking fruitful and prosperous for the phoenix city of Algeciras thanks to the work, and perseverance, of algecireños like Juan Carlos Ocaña Muñoz“, Says Carlos Miguel Gómez de Avellaneda.
