On Sunday, the Canary Islands were hit by a volcanic eruption. Several powerful explosions erupted lava as the volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma, and thousands have been evacuated. More than 200 homes have been destroyed by the 600-meter-wide and 15-meter-high river of molten and red-hot stone, but miraculously one house has survived.
The house belongs to Danish Inge and Ranier Cocq and has been nicknamed the “miracle house”. The couple has not visited their house since before the pandemic began and was at home in Denmark when the news of the outbreak came.
– They started to cry when we understood that their house is still standing, Ada Monnikendam tells the newspaper The world after talking to the retired couple. Monnikendam helped build the house and recognized it from the pictures on TV.
