The “Miracle House” in the Canary Islands – the Danes’ house is the only one that has survived the disaster

On Sunday, the Canary Islands were hit by a volcanic eruption. Several powerful explosions erupted lava as the volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma, and thousands have been evacuated. More than 200 homes have been destroyed by the 600-meter-wide and 15-meter-high river of molten and red-hot stone, but miraculously one house has survived.

The house belongs to Danish Inge and Ranier Cocq and has been nicknamed the “miracle house”. The couple has not visited their house since before the pandemic began and was at home in Denmark when the news of the outbreak came.

– They started to cry when we understood that their house is still standing, Ada Monnikendam tells the newspaper The world after talking to the retired couple. Monnikendam helped build the house and recognized it from the pictures on TV.

It is uncertain why the lava has steered away from the lonely house, but it is apparently completely intact while everything else around has been destroyed by the lava.

The eruption is still under development and experts do not know how long it will last, writes BBC.

Air traffic in the Canary Islands is not currently affected by the ash, except that areas at the time of the eruption are reserved for emergency flights.
