The Minister of War announced how many millions we have given to the Ukrainian army

Bulgaria provides funding under the European Peace Instrument, which finances military and logistical assistance to Ukraine. This is BGN 5 million, ie Bulgaria participates.

This was announced by the Minister of Defense Dragomir Zakov in the program “Since the day” on BNT.

According to him, the parliament is the right place to hold a discussion on whether Bulgaria should help Ukraine with weapons.

“The Bulgarian Armed Forces have huge deficits. Despite the huge shortage of bulletproof vests and helmets, for example, we found old helmets and bulletproof vests that we could send to the Ukrainian population. As for weapons, we need them ourselves, we can’t send them. something we don’t have, “Zakov explained.

“NATO does not send weapons anywhere. When I say that Bulgaria has a deficit, in other countries this deficit is absent. If we look at what weapons are sent, we are talking about more modern systems. These are weapons that these countries would ask to send, and then to fill these gaps quickly. Obviously this is a problem for Bulgaria, “said Minister Zakov, acknowledging that Bulgaria is not a weak link in NATO.

“Bulgaria has the capacity to deal with a range of threats and risks in terms of protecting its territory. But when we talk about sending additional aid, we must take from the armed forces to send this aid, it will reduce the capacity of our armed forces “, stressed the Minister of Defense.

He also commented on the arrival of a battalion group in Bulgaria in the coming weeks.

“We are currently working on a battalion of about 1,000 people. The main task will be of a defensive nature. Currently the main unit is the Bulgarian military, but with the new contributions of the allies, we will be able to release some of them and use them for other tasks “, explained Zakov.
