The final index of US consumer sentiment measured by the University of Michigan stood at 72.3 in May, against a consensus of 74 and a level of 73.7 initially announced. The index had fallen to 71.8 in April.
The expectations component fell from 70.1 to 65.9 while the current conditions index climbed from 74.3 to 82.3. Inflation expectations rise to 3.2% for the coming year, compared to 2.1% last month.
