The Mediterranean Sea will cool ten degrees in 48 hours, warns a meteorologist

A drop in air temperature and strong winds will cause a rapid drop in the temperature of the Mediterranean Sea, warns a French meteorologist. The water temperature could drop as low as ten degrees from 24 to 14 degrees Celsius in just 48 hours from Thursday to Saturday, reports BFM TV.

Strong winds typical of this period began to pick up on the south of France on Friday. The Mistral blew at a speed of 70 kilometers per hour in the department surrounding the city of Marseille and even 100 kilometers in Corsica.

The drop in temperature is further accentuated by the “rising to the surface of cooler deep waters”, meteorologist Alexis Vandevoorde explains on Twitter.

The lowering of the sea temperature is a welcome phenomenon from the point of view of underwater fauna and flora. Due to tropical temperatures, the water in the Mediterranean this summer was above average, in some places over 30 degrees, which damaged corals in particular and destroyed biodiversity.
