The media ethics council evaluates the scandalous “Pig comic” about the war in Ukraine as superficiality

LMĀP believes that such cases serve as a reminder to the media that media rights exist in connection with media responsibilities, and hopes that the discussion generated by this event will do more good than the damage caused by the publication.

LMĕP was founded in 2018 by the merger of media industry associations and companies. Currently, the association has 49 members and three associate members, as well as 14 companies and organizations that have joined the association’s Code of Ethics without becoming members of the association.

LETA has already reported that the “Pig comic” published by “lsm.lv” on Saturday about the war in Ukraine, which depicts pigs in military uniforms, depicting Ukrainian soldiers fighting against Russia, received widespread criticism from Internet users. People have pointed out that such content is inappropriate for publication, especially on the second anniversary of the start of the war.

After the ambiguous portrayal of Ukrainian soldiers, the public media portal “lsm.lv” will not continue “Cūku komiksu”, but will not stop cooperation with its author, Gundeg Eveloni, according to a statement on the media’s website.

The board of Latvian Television (LTV) in connection with “Lsm.lv” so-called “Pig comic” has punished two employees by issuing a verbal warning, media representative Ginta Martini told LETA agency.
