The May 26 Super Blood Moon eclipse lasts 5 hours, here’s the process

Jakarta

Lovers astronomy looking forward to total lunar eclipse on Wednesday, 26 May 2021. As a leak, a phenomenon known as super blood moon this will last a total of 5 hours.

Agency for Geophosics and Climatology Meteorology (BMKG) explained, a lunar eclipse is an event that the sun’s rays are blocked by the Earth, so that not all of them reach the moon, seen from Earth.

This event, which is one of the consequences of the dynamic movement of the positions of the Sun, Earth, and Moon, only occurs during the full moon phase and can be predicted in advance.

Moon eclipse total occurs when the position of the Sun-Earth-Moon aligns. This occurs when the Moon is in the Earth’s umbra, as a result, when the peak of a total lunar eclipse occurs, the Moon will appear red (known as the blood moon).

Because the position of the Moon during an eclipse is in the closest position to Earth (Perigee), the Moon will appear larger than the normal full moon phases, so it is often called a super moon.

“That is why the total lunar eclipse on May 26 will be called super blood moon, because it occurs when the moon is in Perigee, the Moon is in the closest distance to the Earth, “said Head of the Center for Technical Seismology, Potential Geophysics and BMKG Timestamps Rahmat Triyono, in a written statement.

Rahmat said, the phase or process of the total lunar eclipse on May 26 will be divided into seven phases which are described as follows:

1. The initial phase (P1) of the lunar eclipse starts at 15.46.12 WIB, 16.46.12 WITA, 17.46.12 WIT which crosses the central part of Papua, so that observers in Papua province can witness the entire process of this total lunar eclipse.

2. Phase (U1) of the partial lunar eclipse starting at 16.44.38 WIB, 17.44.38 WITA, 18.44.38 3 WIT, crossing the islands of Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara, so that observers in Eastern Indonesia, East Sulawesi Island and East Nusa Tenggara can witness this incident.

3. The phase (U2) of the total lunar eclipse starts at 18.09.21 WIB, 19.09.21 WITA, 20.09.21 WIT crosses Riau and West Sumatra Provinces, so that all observers in Indonesia can observe the beginning of this totality phase, except in parts of Riau , West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh.

4. The peak phase of the lunar eclipse occurred at 18:18.43 WIB, 19.18.43 WITA, 20:18.43 WIT, can be witnessed in all parts of Indonesia, except in a small part of Riau, parts of West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh.

5. Fase (U3) moon eclipse The total ends at 18.28.05 WIB, 19.28.05 WITA, 20.28.05 WITA crossing North Sumatra, so that observers throughout Indonesia, except parts of North Sumatra and Aceh, can witness this phenomenon.

6. The phase (U4) of the partial lunar eclipse ends at 19.52.48 WIB, 20.52.48 WITA, 21.52.48 WIT can be witnessed throughout Indonesia.

7. The phase (P4) of the lunar eclipse ends at 20.51.14 WIB, 21.51.14 WITA, 22.51.14 WIT can be witnessed throughout Indonesia.

“The entire eclipse process, from the initial phase (P1) to the final phase (P4) will last for 5 hours 5 minutes and 2 seconds. While the total eclipse process, from the beginning of the total phase (U2), the total peak to the end of the total phase (U3) will last for 18 minutes 44 seconds, “he details.

The full moon that coincided with eclipse this time it is the second supermoon that happened this year, after last April when the sky was cloudy.

Almost all countries will be able to witness this phenomenon if the weather is clear. East Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Oceania, and most of the American continent except eastern Canada, the Virgin Islands to Trinidad-Tobago, eastern Brazil, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana are the areas that will be arriving super blood moon this.
