The masked life begins for Jaylen Brown

For the recovery after the All-Star Break, the Celtics fell into the classic trap game against the Pacers. Joe Mazzulla’s men, who did not really want to defend, survived the insolent address of Indiana, winning after extra time 142-138. And as often, Boston relied heavily on its duo of Jayson Tatum (31 points) and Jaylen Brown (30 points).

The latter was back after missing the Celtics’ last four games following a collision with his teammate, Jayson Tatum, on February 8 against the Sixers. Medical examinations revealed that he suffered from a fractured face and was now required to wear a protective face mask during matches.

“I felt protected and I didn’t back down from contact” reassured the full-back/winger. “It’s a bit uncomfortable at times, and sometimes you have to look around to be sure you see everything, for example if someone is coming from behind or to be sure someone is in your line of sight. But to be able to make those adjustments, you have to hold your head up and see the floor.”.

If this is the second time he has tested this mask after the All-Star Game, it is the first time he has used it in a situation of potential contact with opponents. In the end, this did not prevent him from performing well by achieving a double-double with 30 points and 11 rebounds, although he still has to get used to some details.

“Today was the first, I would say, real game with the mask and I think it went well” a expliqué Jaylen Brown. “You’re definitely going to have to get used to it, make adjustments and be able to adapt to it. But so far so good.”

He will indeed have to get used to it because he will probably have to keep this mask for about 4 to 6 weeks.
