Anyone who claimed that Islam Makhachev used a drip after the weigh-in will be disgraced. Ali Abdelaziz, the manager of the Russian UFC champion, wrote about this on his Twitter.
“These people shock me with their inventions. Islam did not use a drip, and if he wanted to do it, he would have done everything legally. Many fighters don’t even know they can legally use an IV. I will embarrass everyone on Wednesday,” Abdelaziz wrote.
UFC champion Makhachev received an honorary award from the head of Dagestan
New Zealand UFC fighter Dan Hooker previously accused Makhachev of a prohibited recovery method before defending his title in a fight with Alexander Volkanovski. “I thought he could fly to Australia, hire a nurse to put him on an IV, and we won’t find out,” Hooker wrote, without specifying where he got this information from.
Volkanovski said after the fight that Makhachev weighed about 83 kg, and added that “with the help of IVs or something like that, you can quickly recover” after cutting weight.
