The management of the Traumatology Hospital explains the long waiting in the reception with a large overload – in Latvia – News

The meeting of the subcommittee had been convened by its chairman, opposition deputy Vitaly Orlov (S), in response to a tweet from the Minister of Transport Far Linkait (JKP) about waiting six hours. However, the Minister called such a reaction “butter”, indirectly stating that the deputies were already aware of the queues in the hospital before his tweet. Linkaits did not participate in the meeting.

Zariņš pointed out today at the subcommittee meeting that the law forbids him to comment on whether Linkaits has visited the hospital.

The chief doctor explained that

not only the Traumatology Hospital, but all other hospitals are on the verge of exhaustion.

He pointed to the limited number of medical staff and explained that on holiday evenings, the waiting time could be up to six hours due to the large number of patients.

The chief doctor pointed out that a large number of people from all over Latvia choose to go to the Traumatology Hospital. Zariņš and Vaivode explained that as well

the facilities are too small to accommodate 50 to 70 patients a day, but, for example, on 10 August the hospital admitted 125 patients,

almost twice the hospital’s resources.

Ilmārs Dūrītis (AP), Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Health (MoH), pointed out that the Traumatology Hospital can be relieved by providing quality services in regional hospitals. To achieve this, the Ministry of Health is currently working on a review of hospital levels.

At the meeting of the subcommittee, other issues and suggestions for the improvement of the situation were heard, which were more widely expressed by the representatives and deputies of the MoD. The meeting closed without a decision by the subcommittee.

Linkaits reportedly wrote on Twitter last week that he was participating in a “social experiment” to find out how many hours to wait for an injury. He said that the patient had to wait up to six hours before seeing a doctor.

Linkaits criticized the problems in the organization of the department’s work and the lack of organization of the patient flow. The Minister also pointed out that there is a lack of chairs in the waiting rooms, which means that patients have to stand on their feet.

He has noticed that the medical staff is fast, polite and professional.
