The Malian army and overseas mercenaries killed 50 civilians in April

The United Nations accuses international mercenaries and Malian armed forces of a massacre in the West African country. On April 19, they killed at least 50 unarmed civilians in and all around the town of Hombori, it is reported a report prepared by the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Mali.

The UN has continuously accused Malian troopers of summarily executing civilians and suspected militants in the battle against Islamist insurgents joined to al-Qaeda and the Islamic Condition.

Russian mercenaries

Recently, violence has elevated in Mali. Relations concerning Mali and the West have deteriorated considering that a army federal government arrived to energy immediately after a coup in 2021. This also has to do with the existence of Russian mercenaries. Mali does business with the controversial Russian team Wagner. The United Nations does not identify the nationalities of foreign mercenaries in their latest report.

The April 19 massacre occurred immediately after an assault on a army convoy. A number of hundred Malians had been arrested and detained for a while. According to the United Nations, a Malian soldier personally executed 20 of the 27 civilians held in a army camp in Hombori.

The Malian federal government has not however responded to the report. The navy has admitted in other cases that troops have been included in executions and abuses. Number of troopers had been prosecuted. The authorities regularly make the do the job of UN investigators unattainable.
