As experts have found out, metastases, which are one of the main causes of death in cancer patients, can appear several years before a person is first diagnosed. And the drugs, which are subsequently prescribed for treatment, trigger a kind of selection among the cells of metastases, some of which become resistant to therapy. It turned out that treatment often contributed to the mutation and evolution of cancer cells.
