The Pokémon community was surprised to discover that Game Freak had decided to ban no less than 16 of the most used Pokémon from the VGC in Pokémon Sword and Shield. The developers took this decision in order to heavily shake up the meta.
The Pokémon franchise entered its eighth Generation with the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield on Switch in 2019. This popular RPG this time takes players to the Galar region and introduces new mechanics like Dynamax and online raids.
However, this Thursday, August 20, Game Freak revealed a major move for the title’s competitive part meta by banning 16 Pokémon from VGC fights. Players on their side have had quite divided reactions after discovering these Pokémon. “the most used”.

Pokémon Sword and Shield meta gets a major reset
On August 20, therefore, Game Freak announced new rules to come for the sixth series of VGC battles for Sword and Shield. However, players were left stunned when they learned that the 10 most used Pokémon were being banned in both Solo and Duo.
While ban lists are common in all series, this is the first time that developers have taken the step of removing “no longer used”. This decision causes many teams to become completely obsolete and unusable, which obviously has enough to annoy more than one.

Game Freak would therefore have chosen the 10 most popular Pokémon in both Solo and Duo before combining them to remove this list. However, many players in the community remain divided over these major changes.
Starting with some players who are frustrated at having spent several hours building their team as explained by “BoxSloth” on Twitter: “I spent 2 weeks hatching 2,000 eggs for a shiny Porygon2.” Other fans like “Dani_D_Luffy” point the finger at the mechanics of the game: “How much more time will pass before they figure out that the main problem with meta is this stupid Dynamax mechanic?”

While many Sword and Shield trainers have used this platform to express their anger, others have thanked the developers for this upcoming meta change. This is what Cappuginos explains: “Really excited to see where this takes us,” while another adds: “Finally, bad players will no longer be able to rely on farted Pokémon to carry their teams.”
Series 6 will start on September 1 and end on the 31st of that same month. According to the site Serebii, these changes should also be effective during the month of October. As a result, players angrier at this decision will have to wait at least two months.
Regardless, Game Freak’s decision with this roster is an obvious way for them to force players to take advantage of the hundreds of Pokémon available to them and find the game’s next meta.
