Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is the sixteenth Emir of the State of Kuwait, and the sixth after independence from the United Kingdom. He was born on June 25, 1937 in Kuwait City, and received his education in its various schools, where he studied in Hamada, Sharq, and Al-Naqra schools, then in the Eastern School, in addition to his education in the Mubarakiya School, which is the first school in the history of Kuwait.
Sheikh Nawaf began his career in the military, where he rose through the ranks until he became Minister of Defense in 1988. In 1991, he led Kuwaiti forces in the war to liberate Kuwait from the Iraqi occupation.

After the war, Sheikh Nawaf served as Minister of Interior until 2003, then assumed the position of Crown Prince in 2006. On September 29, 2020, Sheikh Nawaf assumed the reins of power in the State of Kuwait after the death of his older brother, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
During his rule, Sheikh Nawaf worked to enhance security and stability in the State of Kuwait. He also sought to develop the Kuwaiti economy and improve the standard of living of citizens. He also paid great attention to foreign relations, and worked to enhance cooperation between Kuwait and the countries of the world.
Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah held many leadership positions in the State of Kuwait, including:
- Minister of Defense (1988-1991)
- Minister of the Interior (2003-2006)
- Crown Prince (2006-2020)
- Emir of the State of Kuwait (2020-present)
Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is known for his wisdom and political experience. He also enjoys great popularity among Kuwaiti citizens and contributed a major role in resolving the Gulf crisis between Qatar on the one hand and Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the Emirates on the other.
