Labrys is an inclusive dance performance, which due to its geometric position and time course can be compared to a maze: performers move around the audience, who have the opportunity to revolve around their axis, so all of them participate in both the observation of choreography and its creation. Labrys the trajectories of movement and sound are reminiscent of a living pattern that emerges and fades in space at the same time. Continuing your creative handwriting, also in the show Labrys dance artist Ieva Gaurilčikaite-Sants and choreographer Krišjānis Sants are trying to find ways to encourage the work of art to be experienced from within, but composer Jēkabs Nīmanis together with programmer Pāvils Jurjāns have created a sound wall for this labyrinth-dance stage.
Stage duo IevaKrish creative practice can be described as a hybrid form of contemporary dance and scenography – both are interested in the communication of space and movement with the viewer, and each time its research manifests itself in the use of unusual media and forms.
Krišjānis Sants has studied choreography at the Latvian Academy of Culture (2011) and the Belgian school PARTS (2014), while Ieva Gaurilčikaite-Sants has received her professional education in dance in Scotland, SSCD (2015) and Israel (2016). Since 2016, both artists have been living in Latvia and by name IevaKrish actively creates new collaborations: Gotca (2017), Cool down (2018), Labrys, Nearby emptiness (2017-2019). In 2018, both completed their master’s studies in the scenography department at the Latvian Academy of Arts.
The concept, choreography and scenography of the performance were created by Krišjānis Sants and Ieva Gaurilčikaite-Sants, the sound and programming work was performed by Jēkabs Nīmanis and Pāvils Jurjāns, the scenography was constructed by Lauris Puriņš and Aleksandrs Ļubinskis, the performance is produced by Ieva Ozoliņa, Choreographer.
The dance performance will last about one hour and will take place from 15 to 16. Visitors are invited to arrive from 14, because in the square opposite the concert hall, the visitors of the event will be surprised by the organizers, a photo frame – a still image – will be opened and the opportunity to buy tickets for the upcoming September will be offered.
