The new production “Piano Dancing in Debussy” is a physical dialogue between dancer Lisbeth Gruwez and pianist Claire Chevallier. During the performance, the artists, wandering between rules and roles, look for a space between the notes in the compositions of the French composer Claude Debussy.
The Belgian dancer Lizbet Gruvez will be remembered by her observers at the 2018 Liepāja Art Forum, who showed her delicate, masterfully sharpened ability to merge movement with music by dancing Bob Dylan’s songs.
This year, Lizbet Gruveza returns to Liepaja with pianist Clare Chevalier, and this time all the attention is paid to the piano watercolors of the French Impressionist Claude Debussy. It is with this word that the dancer disconnects and encrusts the soundtrack of Debussy’s music: “Piano Dance Debussy is watercolor. Think of the airiness of colors that blend into each other, dry for a while, then get wet again to make new connections. In the sky, music irrigates dance and constantly shakes the material ”.
Baiba Bartkeviča, the artistic director of the Liepāja Art Forum, shares her impressions after watching the performance in Vienna: Abstract, non-verbal realities are just as virtuoso and elusive in the landscapes of the sound world of the impressionist Claude Debussy, created by the fine fingers of pianist Clare Chevalier. Freshness and transcendentality – the dance performance of these two wonderful artists enchants and attracts the audience, and does not let go long after the last chords of the performance. ”
Critics write of Lizbet Gruvez’s performances: “Her dance is as relaxed, poetic and intimate as the music itself.” “She blurs the imaginary boundary between the artist and the viewer.”
The contemporary dance performance “Piano Dance in Debussis” has been created and created as a special “Liepaja Art Forum” in cooperation with the Avignon Theater Festival, the Clara Festival, the Geneva Association for Contemporary Dance, the Royal Flemish Theater, the Freiburg Theater and other important European cultural organizations. The world premiere of the event was already planned at last year’s art forum, but due to the pandemic it was postponed to this year’s program.
From September 24 to 26, the festival “Liepāja Art Forum’21” invites for the seventh time to be together at the festival of new art discoveries. The 10 bright events will feature contemporary music, visual and movement arts events, as well as two family premieres and three cinematic works. Participation of Belgian, French and Latvian artists is expected in the festival program.
When attending the event, we will ask you to present a covid-19 certificate at the entrance, which confirms that the person has been vaccinated against covid-19 or the disease. We will also ask you to present an identity document and an entrance ticket to the event. Face masks do not need to be worn during the event. These rules also apply to children and young people of all ages.
