Riga, November 26, LETA. The annual literary festival “Prose Readings” will take place online this year from December 2 to December 12, and the event will be available on the website “prozaslasijumi.lv” and on the Facebook page of the social media “Prose Readings”.

As Kristiāna Šuksta, a representative of the festival team, informed LETA, this year’s theme of “Prose Readings” is literary polyphony or literary languages. In total, more than ten different online events are expected, in which about 50 Latvian and foreign authors will participate.

The festival will open on December 2 at 7 pm with an essay “Literary Languages” by Ilmārs Šlāpins. Inga Ābele, Inese Zandere, Jānis Joņevs and Osvalds Zebris will take part in the readings of their latest works. independent, life, said Shuksta.

A discussion of Baltic authors and translators “Baltic Literature in the World: Challenges and Opportunities of Translation” will take place on December 3 at 7 p.m. In the discussion, the resonance of translations of Baltic literature abroad will be judged by the Baltic Assembly Prize-winning writers Lēlo Tungala from Estonia and Nora Ikstena, as well as the chairman of the Latvian Writers’ Union (LRS) Arno Jundze, literary agent and translator Jeid Will, translators Rims Užgiris and Adams Viktor Kull. The discussion in English will be moderated by writer, translator and literary agent Willis Kasims.

The readings of the new authors’ seminars “Invitation” and “Literary Academy” will take place on December 4 at 5 pm and 7 pm. On December 5, at 12 o’clock, the traditional Sunday morning readings “Prose Breakfast” will take place, with the participation of Kristīne Želve, Silvija Brice, Laura Vinogradova and Māris Bērziņš – authors who have entered literature from other art genres or fields not related to art at all.

On December 5, at 5 pm, prose readings inspired by the museum atmosphere will be given in readings “Muse Stories”, which will be attended by authors who work in various museums on a daily basis – Aivars Eipurs, Lolita Tomsone, Ilze Andresone, Mārtiņš Pommers. Ilze Jansone, Guna Roze, Sergejs Moreino, Pēteris Pūrītis and Jānis Zelčāns will perform on Saturday evening at 11 pm. The festival will end with the presentation of the “Prose Reading” award on December 12 at 6 p.m.

The festival “Prose Readings” has been taking place since 1995 and has become a lasting and long-awaited event in the Latvian literary landscape, and during that time it is possible to see and hear the latest, most current and recent developments in Latvian literature. Since 2016, the festival has been organized by LRS.
