The Léman Express network restarts in stages

The ATE is surprised by the slow restart of the Léman Express. The network is restarted in stages, notably due to the lack of drivers.

“The Léman Express is the backbone of deconfinement. It is incomprehensible that the trains always run at half an hour rather than a quarter of an hour. ” The Transport and Environment Association (ATE) is questioned. May 11 marked the end of semi-containment, but the Léman Express network has not yet been restored to 100%. Two lines, including the Coppet-Geneva-Annemasse cross-border line, currently run every 30 minutes. The weekend night offer is deleted. “This problem is indirectly linked to the coronavirus,” explains Mario Werren, CEO of Lémanis, which operates the Léman Express. We have stabilized a large part of the problems encountered at the start. But we don’t have enough drivers trained on the Swiss side for our particular route. ” The future pilots were engaged, but did not follow the training, semi-containment requires.

The reactivation of the network is therefore done in stages. Since Monday, a few French regional trains have been running between Annecy and Annemasse and Evian and Annemasse to boost the pace at half an hour on the cross-border line. From May 18, the service will return to the quarter of an hour between Cornavin and Annemasse. “We will collaborate with the Régioexpress of the CFF, which will go to Annemasse via all CEVA stations,” says Mario Werren. For the Geneva-Coppet line, Lémanis “is looking for a solution as quickly as possible to ensure the week at the quarter of an hour. We don’t have enough drivers, but I’m hopeful. “

The director of Lémanis specifies that the Geneva-Bellegarde line operated continuously during semi-containment. And that the distancing measures are not a problem to be respected in the trains of the Léman Express. “We rarely have more than 30 or 40% maximum occupancy per wagon.”
