The parliamentary legal committee voted to close the Specialized Court and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office, after this item was postponed several times in recent weeks. Today it happened in about 30 minutes, BTA reported.
The BSP supported the closure. There were also votes for “There is such a people”. Slavi Trifonov’s MP Radostin Vassilev even found the symbolism and expressed hope that in the next parliament the closure proposal will finally pass in the plenary hall.
This cannot happen, as the last regular sitting of the National Assembly will be on Wednesday, after the president announced that he would dissolve it on September 16, and chairwoman Iva Miteva refused to convene an extraordinary sitting on Tuesday. Because of this, as well as the fact that the Witness Protection Bureau will not be able to be taken away from the Prosecutor General, the protest parties criticized her, and IBGNI’s Maya Manolova even said that she “wanted but did not want to reform the judiciary.” .
“The Special Court, unlike the Special Prosecutor’s Office, is an independent legal entity. It does not close suddenly. It has a liquidation period, tangible assets. It cannot happen in three days,” Special Court President Marieta Raykova said during the hearing.
