The ‘Latvian Voices’ a cappella festival will take place in Valmiera

From 30 June to 2 July in Valmiera will take place “Latvian Voices“a cappella festival and master classes. For the sixth year Valmiera will become the capital of a cappella, inviting those interested to both concerts and educational master classes, the portal “Delfi” informed the representative of “Latvian Voices”. The special guests of the festival will be “Estonian Voices”, and there will also be an a cappella competition for new works, which will be dedicated to Ukrainian folk music.

One of the main goals of the festival is to transfer the accumulated knowledge of a cappella music. That is why the representatives of “Latvian Voices” invite vocal groups, ensembles, choir directors, singers, as well as everyone who is interested in a cappella music and its development in their musical life to jointly develop vocal skills and understanding of this music genre. The special guests of the festival will be the a capella group “Estonian Voices”. It is a professional vocal group from Estonia, which has been active since 2011 and includes jazz, classical, traditional folklore and popular music in its programs. “Estonian Voices” will not only share their knowledge with the participants of the master classes, but will also unite in a joint concert with “Latvian Voices” on the evening of July 1.

For the first time in the history of the festival, an a cappella competition of new works will take place. Participants will be invited to arrange one of the Ukrainian folk songs a cappella. The best works will be performed in the closing concert of the festival “A Cappella Night for Ukraine”.
