The Latvian National Opera and Ballet will be suspended until November 1

Latvian National Opera and the Ballet (LNOB) has completely suspended operations until November 1 due to the Covid-19 disease detected in the employees, according to information on the LNOB website.

“Unfortunately, the infection of this virus has been diagnosed in several more employees of the Latvian National Opera. Taking into account both the situation in the LNOB and the general epidemiological situation in the country, we have made a difficult but, in our opinion, for two weeks, until 1 November, “the statement said.

With the suspension, all scheduled performances are canceled: “Password: BBB” (October 19 and 26), “Lady of Spades” (October 20), “Hamlets. (Not) Stories Tell Me” (21 and 22). “Bohemia” (23 and 25 October), “Don Quixote” (24 and 31 October), “Swan Lake” (28 and 29 October), “Carmelite Dialogues” (27 October and November 1) and “Don Pasquale” (October 30).

The LNOB promises to contact the ticket holders of the canceled shows in person.

“We believe that responsible action can stop the virus outbreak. We want a speedy recovery for everyone who suffers. We will protect ourselves and others,” the LNOB said in a statement.

It has already been reported that the LNOB reported one sick employee on Sunday, October 18. However, a day later it was reported that several Covid-19 infected were also in the choir of the Latvian National Opera.

We remind you that according to the information gathered by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC), 2215 Covid-19 tests were performed last day, 44 new cases of the disease were registered.

The proportion of positive cases against the tested ones was 2% and in Latvia a total of 3494 persons became ill, but 1341 have recovered.

Eight patients were hospitalized on Sunday and a total of 80 patients were treated: 74 with moderate disease, six with severe disease. A total of 284 patients have been discharged from the hospital so far.
