The Latvian duet reaches the quarterfinals in the world curling tour competition – Other sports

15 teams from Denmark, England, Spain, Latvia, Czech Republic, Sweden, Estonia, Slovakia and Switzerland participated in the first “WCT Argovia Mixed Doubles Masters” tournament.

The strong Genie Perret/Martin Rios met Daniel Rupp/Kevin Wunderlin in the home duel in the final. The sixth end turned out to be decisive, in which Pere/Rios scored four points to take a 7-4 lead, as the opponents were unable to recover what they had lost. As a result, Pere/Rios won the tournament title with 7:6.

On the other hand, the third place went to the Czechs Zuzanna Paulova/Tomas Paul, who, thanks to four points in the fourth and two steals in the fifth, took a comfortable lead with 7:3, which they held until the end (7:5).

In the first game of the Barone/Veidemanis tournament, the Latvian national team lost to the third place winners from the Czech Republic, but in the second game, after stealing a point in the last end, they won 6:5 over the home pair. The unfortunate ending of the third game led to a loss for the winners of this tournament. On the other hand, a convincing victory in the last match of the group made it possible to enter the quarter-finals of the competition. Pere/Rios, who also dominated in the second game between them, faced each other again.

Evita Regža/Ansis Regža started the competition with a match against their neighbors from Estonia Marija Kaldvi/Harija Lilla. An unsuccessful sixth end, in which the Latvians lost four points, determined the outcome of the game, losing 6:9 in the first game. In the following six ends, losses were experienced with 2:8 against two Swiss teams, but Regža/Regža ended the tournament with a victory, beating the Slovak pair Paula Hajduk/Jan Horáček with 6:3.
