Commenting on a news item published in the evening news bulletin tonight on Al-Jadeed TV about “dispatching Representative Aoun, commissioned by the head of the movement, Minister Gebran Bassil, to explore holding a legislative session to postpone the municipal elections,” Representative Aoun is interested in clarifying the following:
– There was no initiative or assignment by the Free Patriotic Movement towards any other political party to hold a legislative session, whether to postpone the municipal elections or for any other purpose.
What is happening in the House of Representatives in terms of discussion between the parliamentary blocs during and outside the committee sessions is a discussion about the fate of the municipal elections that were called for without answering many of the questions that were raised by the parliamentary blocs, the last of which was in the last joint committee session.
– The position of the Free Patriotic Movement is clear, and it was expressed in previous statements, and it is with the occurrence of municipal elections in the event that their conditions and requirements are secured, and it is preparing for them in various Lebanese regions, but in the event that the government remains behind in securing funding and all the human and administrative requirements required to conduct them since the date of the call. Until the dates of its implementation, the Free Patriotic Movement will bear its responsibility to prevent municipalities and mayors from falling into a state of emptiness.
– It remains that the only and useful answer that the Lebanese are waiting for regarding whether the elections will take place or not is with the government only and not with the parliamentary blocs.
