The late dismissal of Na Gyeong-won’s son’suspicion of unfair registration of thesis 1 author (general)

Former Liberal Korean Party leader Na Gyeong-won, who was handed over to trial due to a crash in the 20th National Assembly’s fast track (rapid handling agenda), is receiving support from a supporter while attending a trial held at the Southern District Court in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 21st. (Photo = Reporter Park Jong-min) )-When the prosecution investigated the suspicion that Moo Kim, the son of former lawmaker Na Gyeong-won, was illegally listed as the first author on the poster of an international academic conference when he was in high school, the prosecution was not charged.

However, regarding the suspicion of another research publication in which Mr. Kim was registered as the fourth author, additional review was necessary, and the decision was to be withheld until the relevant data came from the United States.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office 7th Criminal Division (Director Prosecutor Lee Byeong-seok) disposed of’no charge’ the day before for insufficient evidence in connection with the suspicion of registering Kim’s thesis poster 1 author. In fact, he saw that there was no problem with the 1st author registration process.

During his high school years, Kim worked as an intern at Seoul National University Medical School Professor Yoon Mo’s lab in 2014, and was then listed as the first author on a biomedical engineering poster presented at an international conference in the United States in August 2015. The poster is a research presentation in a way that is freer than the thesis, and suspicions have been raised that there was a preferential treatment in the process of the high school student Kim, who was registered as the first author.

However, the committee pointed out that it is unfair for Kim to be listed as the fourth author on a poster submitted to the IEEE of the American Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers in 2015.

Regarding the suspicion of 4th author registration, the prosecution also issued a “time-limited prosecution suspension” in which the investigation was suspended until the relevant documents arrived at the university, etc., in order to examine whether the relevant career was helpful for the admission to Yale University. At present, it is known that it is unclear whether or not the career of 4 authors was used in the college entrance examination process.

Kim is expected to join the military on this day, and if the investigation is resumed after the results of criminal justice cooperation related to the four authors arrive during military service, the case is expected to be transferred to the military prosecution.
