“The first car that we produced here stayed with us at the factory. The last model will be sold. It is a private client from Poland, because we tried to keep this car in the country, so that it would be closer to us. This person should have this car for end of this year “- says RMF FM Andrzej Korpak, head of the Gliwice plant.

During over 20 years of production over 2 million 755 thousand cars left the assembly lines of the factory in Gliwice, of which the popular Astra was just over 1 million 800 thousand cars. It is the only plant in Europe where all generations of this model were produced. Cars from the Gliwice factory went to many countries around the world.

“This model ceases to be produced here, because it is time for the sixth generation. And the sixth generation will already be an electric generation” – explains president Andrzej Korpak.

But the end of the production of a passenger car does not mean the end of the plant itself. On the contrary – it was expanded because the production of vans will start there next year. Preparations for the launch of this production will take 4 months. At that time, new cars will be assembled in Gliwice, but for now only in pre-production, test form. Now there is to be a few of them a day, and then this number will systematically increase up to 150 cars each day.

“On April 4 next year we are going to start the full sales production” – announces Andrzej Korpak.

The Stellantis concern, to which Opel belongs, wants to start mass production of delivery vans in the factory next to the astra assembly plant from April next year. Opel Movano, Peugeot Boxer, Fiat Ducato and Citroen Jumper will roll off the assembly line. Cars for the British market are also to be built there.

In total, about 40-50 thousand people should leave the production lines next year. vans, and a year later the plant is to reach full production capacity of 100,000 cars per year.
