No, the Lada brand is not dead. If it has not been officially distributed with us for a few years, it is still largely the sales leader in its country of origin, Russia. And it’s a small event that just happened since after 18 years of absence, the name Niva is making a comeback in the range of the manufacturer!
This new model does not, however, replace the original “Niva”, the one we have known since 1977, which has simply been called “4×4” since 2002. This year, in fact, Avtovaz, Lada’s parent company, joined forces with General Motors (GM) to develop a small, solid all-terrain vehicle to replace the aging Niva, the first of its name. The result is conclusive and GM, in search of a vehicle adapted to the market to bring its offer to Russia, finally decides to market it under the Chevrolet brand, taking with it the emblematic name of the Russian all-terrain vehicle. The venerable Niva is therefore forced to change his name.
In November 2019, the agreement between Chevrolet and Avtovaz ended, and the name “loaned” for almost two decades returned to Lada. The brand takes the opportunity to recover the rights to the vehicle itself … and here is the Chevrolet Niva become Lada Niva. Did you follow everything?
