The State Labor Inspectorate (SLI) has initiated five administrative violation cases related to the detected violations in the “Lido” restaurant “Vērmanītis” after the death of the dishwasher, the leading SLI expert on data analysis and statistics Ilze Kalniņa informed.
At the end of last year, a dishwasher, which had its second working day in the company at the time of his death, died in the freight elevator of the Lido restaurant Vērmanītis. As Gunārs Ķirsons, the Deputy Chairman and co-owner of the Supervisory Board of JSC “Lido”, had told LETA, the employee had read the work safety regulations the day before, which was also visible in the company’s video, but had not signed the work safety instruction. Cherson was puzzled as to why she had decided to take the elevator.
Kalniņa informed that the SLI has completed the investigation into the fatal accident at work and prepared an act on which one of the parties can still appeal to the SLI director.
In the course of its investigation into the accident, the SLI requested an independent technical examination of the truck lift in which the woman was killed. According to the conclusion of the technical examination, the technical condition of the goods lift did not correspond to its use. Accordingly, immediately after receiving the expert’s report, the SLI official suspended the operation of the freight elevator and prohibited its use.
The SLI has initiated five administrative violation proceedings regarding the detected violations, the examination of which will result in decisions.
