The Khojaly genocide is one of the most terrible pages in the history of Azerbaijan

As a result of the policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide purposefully carried out against Azerbaijanis in the Caucasus for 200 years, our people suffered severe deprivations and hardships. As a result of this step-by-step inhumane policy, Azerbaijanis were displaced from their historical ethnic lands, where they lived for thousands of years, from the territory now called Armenia, and were subjected to mass murders and massacres. As a result of the bloody conflict they started for 32 years, the hated Armenians, who received great support from their historical patrons, kept our Karabakh and a total of 20 percent of our land under occupation for years. More than one million of our compatriots were forced to live as displaced and refugees in their homeland. Our historical lands, places of residence, material and cultural monuments were barbarically destroyed by the Armenian fascists.

Our infamous neighbors continued their policy of ethnic genocide against our people in 1905-1906, 1918-1920 with the Khojaly tragedy in 1992, the most merciless massacre in the history of mankind.

In all genocides, the aim and goal of the enemy was the same – to build a “great Armenia” state at the expense of Azerbaijani lands. The aggression of the Armenians in the 80s of the 20th century resulted in the martyrdom of more than 20,000 of our compatriots, 50,000 wounded and disabled, and the disappearance of 4,866 people. The Khojaly genocide is the most terrible page of the war started by our infamous neighbors against our country, the biggest crime against humanity. The Khojaly genocide directed against the Azerbaijani people as a whole is an act of barbarity in human history with its unimaginable cruelty and inhuman methods of punishment.

On the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian usurpers who launched a large-scale attack on the city of Khojaly killed 613 civilians, hundreds of our compatriots were captured, maimed, and taken hostage by vandals.

The internationally accepted definition of genocide suggests that the events of Khojaly are an act of genocide committed against the people of Azerbaijan. International conventions and laws adopted around the world condemn genocides such as the Khojaly tragedy and state that they are inadmissible.

The Khojaly genocide was given a legal and political evaluation only thanks to the active initiative and attention of our national leader Heydar Aliyev.

On February 24, 1994, the Milli Majlis adopted a decision and statement on the Khojaly genocide, which was sent to world parliaments and international organizations.

It is a pity that the Khojaly genocide has not yet found its true legal and political value in the international world, and the perpetrators have not been punished.

Despite the fact that 32 years have passed since the Khojaly massacre, we must not forget the bitter consequences of the tragedy, we must always remember it, and future generations must be informed about Armenian cruelty.

Today, thanks to the far-sighted policy of our victorious Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the high level of training and professionalism of the Azerbaijani Army, and the heroism of the brave Azerbaijani children, our lands were liberated from the enemy. The people of Azerbaijan united closely around the President. “Iron Fist” won.

The myth that Armenians created about themselves for years was shattered during the 44-day war. It turned out that they did not have the ability to wage war, and only the disabled had the power to attack the civilian population.

The people of Azerbaijan took revenge for those who were martyred for the integrity of the motherland and at the same time the martyrs of Khojaly.

Azerbaijan has restored its territory. The people of Azerbaijan will always honor those who died for the integrity of Azerbaijan and the martyrs of Khojaly.

Fidan Huseynova,

Chairman of YAP Guba district organization
