/ world today news/ Kashgar, located in the northwestern part of China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, will work to facilitate the country’s further opening to Asia and Europe through a newly created free trade zone.
Due to its specific geographical location, Kashgar serves as the main link between China and the Central Asian countries of Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. It also acts as a gateway to Russia and European markets. The area’s total trade value saw an 89.7 percent year-on-year increase in the first 9 months of the year, reaching 61.04 billion yuan ($8.42 billion).
The pilot free trade zone in Kashgar was officially opened on 1 November. It covers 179.66 square kilometers and will focus its development on sectors such as trade and logistics, electronics, new materials and auto parts, processed agricultural products, textiles and garments, and assembled electronic products.
“Efforts for reform and innovation will be strengthened so that Kashgar can establish itself as a free trade zone with high standards, high quality and a favorable business environment,” said district party secretary Nie Zhuan.
