The Intel Xe / DG2 doesn’t have to be faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

To summarize, the first reports of Intel Xe performance with the DG2 core spoke of the performance of the GeForce RTX 3070. Some sources soon responded by saying that it would be too optimistic and the card would be slower. This was followed by reports that it was a competitor to the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti (before it was even released) and therefore to the Radeon RX 6800.

However, over time, the messages spoken in such superlatives have diminished. Some sources claim that the card does not even achieve the performance of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (therefore it would be slower than the Radeon RX 6700 XT and could not compete with the Radeon RX 6800). The editors of the RedGamingTech website, which tried to recapitulate the performance reports (also from its own resources) Xe / DG2, expressed the opinion behind these discrepancies. It mentions the possibility of samples from different stages of development, which therefore achieve different performance.

Of course, this is possible, but it would be strange that newer samples would achieve performance below the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, when Intel would distribute samples with GeForce RTX 3070 Ti performance to related parties in the first quarter. Another option that could explain this is that (compared to AMD and Nvidia hardware) less balanced performance. It may simply depend on the load in which the tests take place. In one game, the card may achieve performance close to the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, in another it may not be at the level of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.

It would make sense because it is also Intel’s first major gaming chip – a chip that put together a new team and therefore a product that cannot be expected to be perfect in all respects and have no weaknesses. However, these weaknesses might not bother some users, as it is rumored that the cards should be relatively cheap. Of course, this can only be assessed after release and real availability. But hope dies last.
