In the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the main installation works on the Canakkale 2015 bridge, which connects Europe and Asia in the Dardanelles region, have been completed, the Hurriyet Daily News reported, quoted by BTA.
The Canakkale 2015 bridge will contribute to the development of public relations between Europe, Asia and Africa, while contributing to the trade and tourism sectors, Erdogan said today, placing the last element of the bridge’s roadway.
As well as being the longest main opening in the world, the bridge is “a truly important work with the design, engineering, construction and technical knowledge it brings to the country,” the Turkish president said.
He described the bridge as one of Turkey’s symbols and mentioned that it was built by a huge team of 670 engineers, more than 5,000 workers, 740 construction machinery and 106 subcontractors.
The Canakkale 2015 suspension bridge has a main opening of 2023 m – the longest of its kind in the world. Its name is due to the Turkish naval victory in the region in 1915 during the Gallipoli operation during the First World War.
