The number of registered covid cases has decreased by 90 percent globally since the peak of infection in January, and coronary restrictions are virtually gone in a large number of countries.
Recently, however, infection rates have increased in a number of European countries, and now experts warn that the numbers will increase further over the summer.
It is the new omicron variant BA. 5 which is in the process of creating a new wave of infections in Europe and Norway.

Gives the virus a “kick”
In France in particular, the infection has increased in the last week. According to the website Worldometers, 95,217 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours.
– The pandemic is accelerating again, despite the hot weather. The new omikron sub-variants BA. 4 and BA. 5 is 10 to 15 percent more contagious, and this is what gives the virus an extra “kick”, says Benjamin Davido, a specialist in infectious diseases at Raymond-Poincaré Hospital, to The Guardian.
– We are in a very special situation where it is important that we maintain stable immunity through booster vaccines, he adds.
Corona infection is also increasing in Norway. According to the National Institute of Public Health, a new wave of infections with omicrons may be on the horizon.
– We have expected that there will be a new wave of infections. We have talked about an autumn wave, but also said that it can come earlier, ie already in the summer, said director Camilla Stoltenberg in FHI to TV 2 last week.
