The Industry in the DR (1962-2022): Six Decades of a Wonderful History

The industry has been, is and will continue to be one of the fundamental supports of the country’s economy.

For almost a decade we have oriented our communication work and that of our work team, to the realization of film productions supported by the Film Law 108-10, with a clear orientation to sow values in Dominican society.

This week the documentary opens in Dominican theaters “The industry in the DR (1962-2022)-Six decades of a wonderful history”, which is the fourth film production that we carry out on this route of sowing values and highlighting important aspects in the future of the Dominican nation.

Since the 1990s, when the Film Law did not yet exist, we have developed two film-oriented television productions. At that time we made the telestories “The truth of Enrique Blanco” and “The good night of Encarnación Mendoza”, two adaptations of the stories of Juan Bosch, with the participation of important actors and actresses of the country.

With the approval of the Film Law in 2010, which grants a series of stimuli and facilities to make films, we decided to develop film productions with the orientation of planting values. Our first project was the documentary “Gilbert, Hero of Two Peoples”made in 2018. With this documentary we managed to rescue the historical figure of that great Dominican patriot, who was unknown to the Dominican people, we managed to get Congress to declare him a National Hero, that January 10 was designated as Gilbert Day, that the port of San Pedro de Macorís be named after him, and that, in 2021, President Luis Abinader ordered the transfer of Gilbert’s remains to the Panteón de la Patria.

The second project was the documentary “Dominican Presidents in history (1844-1966)-Challenges and ironies of power”, in the year 2020, which we carried out in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. This documentary collects many situations that are not so well known in the life and work of our first 47 presidents, and has been widely distributed among high school and university students.

The third project we did was the film “The Transformed Man”our first dramatic production, in the year 2021. It is a deep reflection on the problems that exist in marriages in the Dominican Republic and a call to face the great epidemic of divorces that corrodes our society in these times.

The documentary that we premiered this week, “The industry in the DR (1962-2022)- Six decades of a wonderful history”, It is our fourth film production. Like the three previous projects, it was made under the protection of the Film Law, with a combined effort from our channel Señales TV, the company Jemipas Films and the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD).

The industry has been, is and will continue to be one of the fundamental supports of the country’s economy. Analyzing the history of the industrial sector from its emergence in the times of the dictator Trujillo, until the year 2022, has been a stimulating and instructive journey through one of the economic areas that has contributed the most to the growth, development and prosperity of the Dominican people. All this analysis of the Dominican industry is carried out using images, figures, documents, anecdotes and testimonials from its main leaders in the last sixty years.

The Premier Gala to present the documentary was held last week in the Palacio del Cine room in Blue Mall with the presence of the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Víctor -Ito-Bisonó; the president of CONEP, Celso Juan Marranzini; the former president of the AIRD, Yandra Portela; the director of Support for the Industry of Pro-Industria, lIonca Acosta; the lawyer Marisol Vicens; the manager of the CND, Jochy Pérez; the executive vice president of the AIRD, Mario Pujols; Pastor Raffy Paz and Pastor María Isabel Palacio, among others.

When taking the floor, I expressed the following: “In these six decades that are analyzed in the documentary, it is shown that the Dominican industrial sector has effectively assumed its role. Its leaders have had vision and determination. The industry has made large investments. It has created many jobs. It has generated much wealth and has become one of the main supports for the development of the Dominican nation. It confirms that, without a doubt, there have been six decades of a wonderful history”.

I urge all my readers and the entire Dominican population, starting this coming Thursday, August 18, to attend the Palacio de Cine theaters to enjoy this documentary, which is an educational, entertaining, and instructive experience about the role that has Dominican industry has played in the development of our nation.
