Should we fear a re-containment in the Rennes metropolitan area? While this does not seem to be envisaged for the time being, some epidemic monitoring indicators are attracting the authorities’ attention. “Since the start of the year, the incidence rate in the Rennes Métropole area has increased very sharply. This development is one of the five most marked in all French metropolises ”, underlines the Breton Regional Health Agency.

Fortunately for caregivers, this upward trend has not yet translated into an explosion in the number of hospitalizations. The reason is probably explained by the age of the new patients. According to the ARS, it is “especially those under 65” who have been the most affected in recent weeks.
Respect for barrier gestures and limitation of interactions
The metropolis of Rennes is also home to a large part of the department’s clusters, the majority of which have been detected in the workplace and in the private sphere. In Brittany, the Covid-19 has already killed more than 1,500 people. To prevent this figure from exploding, the authorities invite the metropolitan population to strictly respect barrier gestures and to limit their interactions, including in the private sphere.
In an interview with 20 Minutes Less than two weeks ago, Professor Pierre Tattevin raised the possibility of considering a reduction in certain measures in Brittany, the region least affected by the virus. Since then, the unknown Breton variant has appeared and the number of cases in the Rennes metropolitan area has jumped.
