The iMac Pro can no longer be traded

Buy the iMac Pro. As long as the stock lasts, ”Apple states on its online stores.

Launched in 2017, but was hardly a big seller

And now it is the case that the machine is sold out. It was for a short period only possible to buy the most affordable model, but now this is also sold out in Apple’s Norwegian online store. In the US, it’s still there, so far.

The machine was launched in 2017 and was undoubtedly aimed at professionals with Intel Xeon CPUs and a starting price of 61,190 kroner which also included:

  • 32 GB 2666 MHz ECC memory, can be configured with up to 256 GB
  • 1 TB SSD storage
  • Radeon Pro Vega 56 with 8 GB HBM2 memory
  • 10 Gb Ethernet
  • Fire Thunderbolt 3-porter
  • 27-inch Retina 5K display with 5120 x 2880 resolution (P3)

This indicates a launch of new iMacs, and hopefully with more new than new Intel CPUs

That this particular product disappears is not so shocking when the company introduced a new Mac Pro two years later, a machine that can be upgraded.

New iMacs with a completely new design, narrower frames and M1 or M1X / M2 chipsets have long been rumored. It is unknown when these machines will be launched, and it may be that the iMac Pro was intended to retire anyway, but this hints in the direction of new machines.

The iMac 21 ″ (7th and 8th generation Intel CPUs) can still be traded from NOK 13,990, while the 27-inch (10th generation Intel CPUs) starts at NOK 22,990. Of course, we are hoping for bigger upgrades than just Intel’s 11th generation CPUs.
