The Hungarian sword team, composed by Áron Szilágyi, András Szatmári, Csanád Gémesi and Tamás Decsi, won the gold medal at the European Fencing Championships in Turkey on Monday, after defeating the Ukrainian team 45-39 in the early evening final, MTI writes.
The Hungarian national team started to be among the top eight in the team competition, and first they defeated the Poles and then the French in the semi-finals. In the final, they suffered thoroughly with the Ukrainian team behind the world rankings. From the Hungarian point of view, the final did not start well, because Áron Szilágyi and Csanád Gémesi also lost their asses 5-2, so the Ukrainians led by six inches. However, the finisher of the round, András Szatmári, won 9-5, so the disadvantage was reduced to two hits (13-15).
