For almost a decade the name of Eric Masip (27) has appeared in credits for Spanish films and series. First as a guest or secondary ( Fugitive, Love is forever, Tell me, Charon, Elite or Venom ), to move on to roles with more weight as in Alba or Through my window. But in his latest job he has not acted as an interpreter but as a model in the Rabat jewelry Father’s Day campaign. Because the actor is the son of Enric Masip, one of the best Spanish handball players of all time and currently adviser to the presidency of FC Barcelona.
In the Rabat campaign, recorded on the Jarama circuit, Masip assures that he and his father are “ambitious, persevering and sensitive” and that the gift that can most excite his father is a watch: “We are both passionate about them. I always wear a watch, even when I do sports. And on filming I ask to be able to wear one, because it says a lot about the character”, comments the actor in a telephone conversation with this newspaper.

He assures that he became fond of watches after his father gave him one of his when he was 18 years old. “I had it saved and I only wore it on special occasions until I started having commitments due to my work and I had to wear it more regularly. I liked the fact of wearing a watch, but above all discovering the story behind each model”.

Eric Masip has a dozen watches, but the one he considers most special is one from the 1930s. “When I bought it, it was in perfect condition and I was excited to wear a watch that was almost a century old, and it is also one of the first submersibles.” Explain. Eric has been living in Madrid for 8 years, where he went to study acting. His parents supported him from the beginning, although everyone around him thought that he would follow in his father’s footsteps: “I played handball but I got injured and that allowed me to dedicate myself to my true passion, acting.” . And he adds that his favorite sport is tennis, which he often practices “I am very competitive and tennis is very mental, one on one.”
Masip is very reserved when it comes to his private life “I prefer that the public know little about me so that they can see me better in the characters without having conditions”. But without a doubt the character that has made him popular and marked him emotionally was that of Bruno Costa in Alba. “I think you can’t play a character unless he touches you emotionally. It was a very hard shoot but at the same time beautiful and inspiring, where all the actors came together. It was the story of a rape and it had to be told with all the harshness and with all the heart”.
Sometimes they have confused him with his father and they have called him Enric: “I am very proud of him, but we each have to trace our own path,” he says. His, from Madrid, looks towards Hollywood and also towards Catalonia, where he returns once a month to see his family, and also because he would like to shoot in Catalan, his mother tongue and which he only used in the first movie he shot two a la cartein 2014.
