The hospital was given the “green light” for the new construction of the main building. What can you find in it?

The Olomouc University Hospital received a “green light” from the Ministry of Health for the construction of a new main building B and the relocation of clinics from already unsuitable premises. The strategic investment for two billion crowns will make it possible to concentrate other key fields under one roof and build a modern maternity hospital with gynecology and a neonatal ward.

Neurology, neurosurgery and orthopedics will then be moved to the new main building, which is to be combined with traumatology in the modern premises. Acute and central care to the monoblock will be centralized and a direct connection to the diagnostic, surgical, resuscitation and urgent tract with a heliport will be ensured. It is also planned to build centralized emergency income.

“A more modern workplace will be created, providing significantly faster and better quality care to patients from a wide area beyond the borders of the region,” said Health Minister Adam Vojtěch.

Challenging preparations

The university hospital is already working intensively on the preparation of a demanding project. Even before the start of construction, relocations of engineering networks and transfers of medical technologies, which are located in the historic building from 1896, are necessary.

“Now, after registering the event, we can start this work. In August, we are announcing a public contract for a supplier of a project solution for relocation of engineering networks and demolition. Demolition work can begin after the building is finally vacated, “said hospital spokesman Adam Fritscher.

According to him, the relocation of investigative technologies will begin in September this year and will continue until October next year. Then the Franz Josef building will be demolished, the demolition work is to be completed in May 2022.

“Construction of the new Pavilion B will begin immediately after demolition, completion of project documentation and selection of the construction contractor. We assume that the construction work will take about three years, “added a spokesman for the Olomouc University Hospital. The new construction of the main building could be in operation in 2025.
