The world celebrates on the thirty-first of May of each year the World No Tobacco Day around the world, which is an annual global event through which the global focus is on the negative and harmful effects of tobacco and smoking, highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco use and calling for effective policies to reduce its consumption. Tobacco is the second leading cause of death in the world, currently claiming the lives of one in ten adults worldwide.

The Sharjah Health Education Department stated that a cigarette is usually smoked within 5-7 minutes and a person is exposed to 0.5 liters of smoke, while a hookah session takes 30-60 minutes and a person is exposed to 50 liters of smoke.

She stated that the reasons for quitting smoking are to feel better health after stopping it, to enjoy a better life for the rest of life, and to become a good example for his family, children and friends, in addition to becoming proud of himself.

The administration identified 7 benefits for quitting smoking; After 20 minutes, blood pressure and heartbeat return to their normal levels, and after 8 hours the level of carbon monoxide in the blood decreases, and after 48 hours carbon monoxide and nicotine completely disappear from the body, and after 2-3 days respiratory difficulties decrease and sputum production decreases with coughing.

She pointed out that after 2-3 months, lung function improves by 5%, but after 5 years, the risk of developing pharynx, esophagus, and bladder cancer decreases by half, and after 10 years, the risk of lung cancer and osteoporosis decreases by half.
