A clue is a tough tool to get things done on the island. It is not the first time that the Kingdom government has implemented this measure. In 2012, the Netherlands gave a direction to the Schotte government due to problems with the island’s budget. This happened again in 2019, also because of the inadequate budgetary policy of the Rhuggenaath government.
In the run-up to the elections, a similar scenario loomed in 2017. The opposition wanted to postpone the elections indefinitely. The Netherlands intervened, so that the elections could eventually go ahead.
