Recently updated information on the website of the U.S. Department of the Treasury shows that as of July 27, the U.S. federal government debt reached 32.659 trillion U.S. dollars, an increase of 392.75 billion U.S. dollars from the previous month. That brings quarterly U.S. debt interest payments to nearly $1 trillion, the St. Louis Fed said. The Cato Institute, an American think tank, warned that the increasing debt of the U.S. federal government will suppress private investment and increase the risk of a sudden financial crisis. This has become a “national security” issue for the United States.
