The green parties of America will have their summit in Argentina

The Federation of Green Parties of the Americas, an organization that brings together political forces from 14 countries on the continent, chose Argentina to hold its annual assembly, on January 28 and 30. The decision means a boost for the local Green Party, one of the youngest in the region.

The Green Party in Argentinaa was created in 2014 and has been chaired since then by Silvia Vazquez, former national deputy emerged from radicalism and former director of Environmental Affairs of the Foreign Ministry during part of the administration of Felipe Solá.

As reported in a statement, the Green Party of Argentina received the support of Green Forum, the founding of the Green Party of Sweden, where a cooperation and technical assistance agreement was signed, which is part of a policy to accelerate the development of political green movements in different countries.

Vázquez received a technical delegation from that foundation, led by Victor Reyes, who stated that “the Green Party of Argentina is a great contribution to this country and also to the international framework, for all this we want to contribute to its acceleration”

“The meeting is part of the power that both the local Green Party and the environmental movements and parties in the world are having as a result of the crisis due to climate change and in the defense of natural resources,” they added from the force.

Unlike what happens in Europe, where they had more development, the green and environmental parties that emerged in the country have not yet managed to consolidate themselves as important actors in public discussion. The Argentine Green Party won three seats in Tierra del Fuego in 2019, although it did so in alliance with the Justicialist Party. In 2020 it was consolidated in Mendoza, with the passing of a deputy and a local senator to the party, which was joined by another legislator with this year’s elections.
