The government opens the possibility of electricity tariff adjustments

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), does not rule out the possibility of adjusting electricity rates in the coming periods.

This is due to the continued movement in the realization of the macro indicators that determine electricity tariffs, which consist of the rupiah exchange rate, the Indonesian crude oil price (Indonesian crude price), inflation, and the coal benchmark price (HPB).

“In the future, it is possible that electricity tariffs can undergo changes in view of the development of ICP, exchange rates, inflation, and HPB,” said the Head of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Communication, Public Information Services and Cooperation Bureau, Agung Pribadi, in a written statement, Monday (8/3 / 2021).

In November 2020 to January 2021, which is the determining period for electricity tariffs in the second quarter of 2021, all macro indicators have changed.

The ESDM Ministry noted that from November last year to January 2021 the realization of the exchange rate was Rp. 14,157.27 per US dollar, ICP was US $ 47.21 per barrel, inflation rate was 0.33 percent, and HPB was Rp. 762.84 per kg. .

With this realization, referring to the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 28 of 2016 concerning the Tariff for Electricity Provided by PT PLN (Persero) as last amended by Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 3 of 2020, the electricity tariffs for the April to June 2021 period should have been adjusted. .

However, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources decided to set the electricity tariff for the second quarter of 2021 to be the same as in the first quarter of this year, or not to increase.

Agung also hopes that PLN can continue to improve operational efficiency, so that the cost of providing electricity per kWh can be reduced.

“Or at least it remains from the previous period,” said Agung.

“Not increasing the amount of electricity tariffs certainly provides certainty to various groups of society and maintains people’s purchasing power and supports the stability and recovery of the national economy,” he said.
