‘The Good Boss’ with Bardem great winner in the Goyas of Spain

MADRID (AP) — Fernando León de Aranoa’s “The Good Boss” was the big winner of Spain’s most prestigious film awards, taking home six awards, including best film and best actor for Javier Bardem.

Shortlisted for an Oscar in the international feature film category, the labor satire of an owner determined to win a corporate award also earned León de Aranoa Best Direction and Best Original Screenplay, as well as editing and best music awards at Saturday’s gala .

‘El Buen Jefe’ arrived at the evening with a record 20 nominations for the Goya Awards of the Spanish Academy.

Blanca Portillo beat Penélope Cruz for Best Actress for her role in ‘Maixabel’, the true story of the widow of a politician assassinated by the Basque separatist group ETA.

Cruz will achieve another success for her as “Parallel Mothers” by Pedro Almodóvar after being nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars. Bardem, her husband, will also be in the running for an Oscar for her role in “Ser los Ricardos.”

The Goyas gala, lasting more than three hours, was held in Valencia with all the traditional pomp after last year’s edition was broadcast virtually due to the pandemic.
