The future of phones? It is shown by the rolling Motorola Rizr in Barcelona

MWC 2023 has been spectacularly hosted by Lenovo, including its Motorola brand. As part of it, he presented the concept of the Motorola Rizr rollable phone, which thus expands a series of these attempts that began the year before with LG and continued with Oppo. However, Lenovo, and by extension Motorola, is apparently much further ahead and at the press conference they presented us with an almost finished device that was mostly functional.

The basis of the entire device called Rizr is a solid body around which the display rolls. The advantage of this solution is that when it is rolled up, it will be a completely compact phone, the screen of which will have a 5″ diagonal. After unrolling, the diagonal of the panel will increase to 6.5″. The Android system will be adjusted so that it responds smoothly to the increase or decrease of the display and can rearrange everything. For example, it already worked in the YouTube application, when the display automatically increased when the video started.

The scrolling display will be practically used in every circumstance. In the rolled state, part of the display will be on the back of the phone and will be used to display notifications or take photos. The current Motorola Razr uses a similar principle. You may also notice that the front selfie camera is not visible by default. It always only appears as needed by rolling the display.

At the end of the presentation of the rolling Motorola Rizr, the information that the manufacturer does not yet know when or if it will sell this device was not pleasing. At the moment, the development is not over, as evidenced by, for example, the missing fingerprint reader. In the case of deliveries to end customers, according to the manufacturer, it should be on the right side, or somewhere on the back.
