The Future of Broadcasting Ukrainian Championship Matches: Updates from MEGOGO’s Head of Sports Broadcasting

The head of sports broadcasting at MEGOGO, Artem Panchenko, spoke about the situation with the broadcast of matches of the Ukrainian championship.

— What is the reason for the fact that the UPL-TV match pages on the MEGOGO platform are now unavailable? Does this mean that there should be a fee for viewing them?

— We have an agreement with the UPL, according to which we could show matches of the first six rounds for free, and then expect updates from the UPL regarding the distribution model for the next rounds in accordance with the decision of the clubs. Now we and other platforms are waiting for the same permission to show the seventh round for free. It will be received in the next few hours.

— So, this is some kind of postponement until the clubs finally decide in what format to show matches in the future?

— Yesterday there was a large constructive meeting of representatives of UPL clubs, at which models for distributing UPL-TV content in the 2023/24 season were presented. Now the clubs are studying each of the key options in detail, and must consolidatedly choose the development path that suits them and vote for it. We hope that this vote will take place in the coming days.

After this, the UPL will issue a statement regarding the format in which matches will be shown in the future. That is, another seventh round will be shown for free, and then everything depends on the vote of the UPL clubs.
