The founder of the Olympic group, Pavel Chrastina, has died

The iDnes server informed about the death with a reference to the wife of the musician Eva Dudková, subsequently the singer Petr Janda also confirmed it to ČTK.

For the Olympic group, which he founded with other musicians in 1962, Chrastina also wrote lyrics in the first years of its existence and worked as an accompanying singer and bass player. He left the band in 1969.

Already before, as a member of the Prague bands EP-Hifi and the Big Beate Study Group, he played a significant role in the Czech music production of the time. He founded the first group as a student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in 1958 at the castle in Poděbrady. It was called Samuel’s Band.

After graduating from FAMU, he worked as a screenwriter and director at Czechoslovak Television and Krátký film Praha.

He emigrated to Australia in 1980, then moved to the United States. He did not return to the Czech Republic until 1994.

He is the author of, for example, the songs Bird Wolverine, Turtle or Perhaps I caused it, Give me more of your love or Beautiful unknown.
